Question 1

What is the driest month in Brisbane?

Accepted Answer

September is the driest month in Brisbane, recording just 11.2mm (0.44in) of rain in September 2025 — barely a tenth of the city's average monthly total.

Across 2025, Brisbane received 1,482.2mm (58.4in) of rain spread very unevenly through the year, averaging about 123.5mm (4.9in) per month. September stood far below that, making it the standout dry window. For contrast, the wettest month, March 2025, dumped a remarkable 513.8mm (20.2in), while November followed with 198.7mm (7.8in).

The dry September weather paired nicely with mild, sunny conditions. Brisbane saw a mean temperature of 18.6°C (65.5°F) that month, with daytime highs reaching up to 31.3°C (88.3°F) and cool overnight lows near 8.2°C (46.8°F). The month also delivered 275.5 hours of sunshine, among the highest of the year.

For visitors, this makes early spring an excellent time to experience Brisbane. The low rainfall and comfortable temperatures are ideal for outdoor activities like exploring South Bank, river walks, or day trips, with minimal chance of a washout. If you want to avoid Brisbane's heavier downpours, steer clear of the late-summer and autumn months — particularly March — and aim for the reliably dry conditions that September offers.

Question 2

What were the temperature extremes in Brisbane in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Brisbane's temperature extremes in 2025 ranged from a scorching high of 37.4°C (99.3°F) to a chilly overnight low of 5.1°C (41.2°F), giving the city an annual swing of more than 32°C (58°F).

The hottest day in Brisbane fell on 24 January 2025, when the mercury peaked at 37.4°C (99.3°F) during the height of the Southern Hemisphere summer. The coldest moment came on 13 June 2025, when temperatures dipped to just 5.1°C (41.2°F) in the early hours — the lowest reading of the year. Across all of 2025, Brisbane recorded an annual mean temperature of 20.4°C (68.8°F), with average daily highs of 26.2°C (79.2°F) and average overnight lows of 15.6°C (60.1°F).

Heat was a regular feature of the Brisbane climate in 2025: the city logged 82 days with maximum temperatures of 30°C (86°F) or above, most of them clustered in the summer and late-spring months.

For visitors and residents, this means Brisbane delivers warm, subtropical conditions for most of the year, with truly cold days being rare. Pack light, breathable clothing for the hot summer peaks, but bring a jacket if you are visiting in June or July, when nights can feel surprisingly crisp.

Question 3

How much rainfall does Brisbane get in a year?

Accepted Answer

Brisbane recorded a total of **1,482.2 mm (58.4 inches)** of rainfall across 2025, confirming its reputation as one of Australia's wetter subtropical capitals.

Rainfall in Brisbane was heavily concentrated in the warmer half of the year. The single wettest month was March 2025 with a remarkable 513.8 mm (20.2 inches), driven by humid subtropical downpours when average humidity peaked at around 82%. November was the next wettest month at 198.7 mm (7.8 inches), followed by January at 139.2 mm (5.5 inches).

The data shows a clear wet-season pattern. Brisbane's warm months from November to April delivered roughly 1,091.9 mm (43.0 inches) of rain — about 74% of the annual total — while the cooler, drier stretch from May to October saw only 390.3 mm (15.4 inches). Average humidity across 2025 held at 75.4%, reflecting the city's muggy climate.

For visitors and residents, this means Brisbane's rain is highly seasonal rather than evenly spread. If you want drier, more stable conditions for outdoor activities, the winter months of June through August are the safest bet, each receiving around 50 mm (2 inches). Travellers planning for the December-to-March period should pack for sudden tropical showers and storms, even though daytime temperatures remain warm and pleasant.

Question 4

What is the sunniest time of year in Brisbane?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Brisbane is late in the year, with December standing out as the brightest month. In 2025, December delivered 323.1 hours of sunshine — roughly 10.4 hours per day — making it the clear peak for sunny weather.

Across all of 2025, Brisbane recorded about 3,099 hours of sunshine, averaging close to 8.5 hours per day. The brightest stretch ran from October through December and into January, when monthly totals stayed high:

- **December:** 323.1 hours (~10.4 hours/day)
- **October:** 289.0 hours (~9.3 hours/day)
- **January:** 283.2 hours (~9.1 hours/day)
- **November:** 279.7 hours (~9.3 hours/day)

By contrast, the dullest month in Brisbane was March, with just 169.4 hours of sunshine after an exceptionally wet spell. This shows that even in a sunny city, cloud and rain can sharply cut daylight hours in autumn.

These figures make the warmer end of the year the best window for sun-dependent plans in Brisbane. December not only led for sunshine but was also warm, averaging 23.9°C (75.0°F), so visitors and locals can expect long, bright days ideal for the beach, outdoor dining, and sightseeing. If maximizing sunshine is the goal, aim for October to December, and keep flexible plans for March when overcast conditions are most likely.
