Question 1

What is the driest month in São Paulo?

Accepted Answer

**May was the driest month in São Paulo in 2025**, with just 22.2 mm (0.87 in) of rainfall across the entire month. This stands out sharply against the city's wetter periods and marks the heart of São Paulo's dry season.

São Paulo has a clear wet-and-dry rainfall cycle rather than a hot-cold one. In 2025, the drier half of the year (April to September) averaged about 106 mm (4.2 in) of rain per month, while the wetter half (October to March) averaged roughly 267 mm (10.5 in). For comparison, December 2025 was the wettest month with a soaking 448.0 mm (17.6 in) — twenty times more rain than May.

Beyond being dry, May 2025 was pleasantly mild and sunny. The month logged 239 hours of sunshine, with average daytime highs near 29.8°C (85.6°F) and an average temperature of 19.1°C (66.4°F). Nights turned crisp, with the lowest reading dipping to 7.9°C (46.2°F).

These conditions make May an appealing time to visit São Paulo. With minimal rain interruptions, plenty of sunshine, and comfortable daytime warmth, it's well suited to walking tours, parks, and outdoor dining. Just pack a light layer for the cooler evenings. Across all of 2025, São Paulo received about 2,238 mm (88.1 in) of rain, so timing a trip around the May dry spell offers a noticeably drier experience than the summer months.

Question 2

What were the temperature extremes in São Paulo in 2025?

Accepted Answer

In 2025, temperatures in São Paulo ranged from a high of **36.6°C (97.9°F)** in December down to a low of **5.2°C (41.4°F)** in June, giving the city an annual swing of about 31°C (56°F).

As a Southern Hemisphere city, São Paulo's warmest period falls in summer (December to February) and its coolest in winter (June to August). The hottest day of 2025 came in December, when the temperature peaked at 36.6°C (97.9°F). The coldest night arrived in June at just 5.2°C (41.4°F), with frost-free but chilly conditions continuing through July.

These figures show why São Paulo rarely feels extreme in either direction. Even in the peak of summer, nights stay comfortable, and winter days still climb into the mid-20s°C (mid-70s°F). For visitors in 2025, the data points to packing layers for cool mornings between June and August, while summer travellers should prepare for occasional spikes near 37°C (99°F). Overall, the wide gap between the year's hottest afternoon and coldest dawn highlights São Paulo's surprisingly varied temperature profile.

Question 3

How much rainfall did São Paulo get in 2025?

Accepted Answer

São Paulo received approximately **2,238 mm (88.1 inches)** of rainfall across 2025, making it a notably wet year for the city. The rain was heavily concentrated in the warm months, with December 2025 standing out as the wettest by a wide margin.

The single rainiest month was December 2025, which alone delivered 448 mm (17.6 in) of precipitation. January was the next wettest at 333 mm (13.1 in), followed by October at 252 mm (9.9 in) and February at 244 mm (9.6 in). In total, six separate months in 2025 each exceeded 200 mm of rain.

This pattern reflects São Paulo's typical wet-and-dry rhythm, where the late-spring and summer months drive the bulk of the annual total. The final stretch of the year was especially soggy: October through December combined for roughly 928 mm, more than 40% of the entire year's rainfall. Average humidity across 2025 stayed high at about 75%.

For visitors and residents, this means heavy, often intense downpours are most likely from October onward, peaking in December 2025, so umbrellas and rain plans are essential during this period. The contrast with São Paulo's drier mid-year stretch is sharp, underscoring how unevenly the city's rain is distributed through the calendar.

The sunniest stretch came in late summer and early autumn: February led with 245.4 hours, closely followed by December with 243.2 hours and March with 242.1 hours.
