Question 1

What is the sunniest time of year in Vancouver?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Vancouver is the summer, specifically the months from June to August (meteorological summer), with July standing out as the brightest month of all. In 2025, July alone delivered 419.2 hours of sunshine in Vancouver, which averages out to roughly 13.5 sunny hours per day.

Across the full summer of 2025 (June through August), Vancouver recorded about 1,067.6 sunshine hours, by far the brightest stretch of the year. This summer brilliance came with warm, settled conditions: the average summer temperature was 16.5°C (61.7°F), and rainfall was remarkably low at just 122.7mm (4.83 in) for the whole season. July was especially dry, with only 24.5mm (0.96 in) of precipitation.

The contrast with winter is striking. December 2025 was the darkest month, managing only 32.8 sunshine hours, or about 1.1 hours of sun per day. Spring and autumn fell in between, with 563 and 464 sunshine hours respectively, but both came with heavy rainfall.

For visitors and residents planning sun-dependent activities, these 2025 figures confirm that **June to August is the prime window** in Vancouver. The combination of long daylight, abundant sunshine, and minimal rain makes summer ideal for hiking, beach outings, and exploring the city's parks. Of Vancouver's 2,373 total sunshine hours in 2025, nearly half were concentrated in these three summer months, so anyone chasing reliable sunshine should aim for this period.

Question 2

How much total rainfall did Vancouver receive in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Vancouver received approximately **2,211 mm (87.0 inches) of total rainfall in 2025**, confirming the city's reputation as one of Canada's wettest major cities.

The precipitation was heavily concentrated in the cooler half of the year. The wettest stretch ran from October through March, which alone delivered about 1,700 mm (66.9 inches) — roughly 77% of Vancouver's annual total. March 2025 was the single wettest month with 413 mm (16.3 inches), closely followed by December 2025 at 413 mm (16.2 inches).

Summer offered a dramatic contrast. June and July 2025 were the driest months, each recording just 24.5 mm (1.0 inch), and the full meteorological summer (June–August) saw only 123 mm (4.8 inches). In total, the drier April–September half of the year contributed just 511 mm (20.1 inches), or about 23% of the yearly rainfall.

For visitors and residents, this means Vancouver's weather in 2025 followed a clear wet-season pattern: pack a reliable rain jacket if you're here between late autumn and early spring, but expect mostly dry, pleasant conditions in summer — ideal for hiking, beaches, and outdoor events across the city.

Question 3

What were the temperature extremes in Vancouver in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Vancouver's temperature extremes in 2025 ranged from a high of **24.8°C (76.6°F)** on July 13 to a low of **−8.5°C (16.7°F)** on February 5, giving the city an annual swing of about 33.3°C (roughly 60°F).

The hottest day of 2025 fell in mid-summer, when Vancouver reached its peak daytime temperature of 24.8°C (76.6°F) on July 13. The warmest day overall, measured by daily average, was July 15 at 21.6°C (70.9°F). At the other end of the year, the coldest reading came during the winter cold snap of early February, bottoming out at −8.5°C (16.7°F) on February 5, while February 4 had the lowest daily average at −4.2°C (24.4°F).

A few more numbers help put Vancouver's 2025 climate in perspective:

- **Annual mean temperature:** 10.4°C (50.7°F)
- **Frost days** (daily low at or below 0°C/32°F): 17
- **Days above 25°C (77°F):** 0

These figures highlight Vancouver's mild, oceanic climate, where summers stay comfortable rather than scorching and hard freezes are uncommon. With no days topping 25°C and only 17 frost days all year, 2025 confirmed Vancouver as a moderate-weather city, well suited to year-round outdoor activities without the temperature extremes seen in more continental parts of Canada.

Question 4

What is the weather like in Vancouver in July?

Accepted Answer

July is one of Vancouver's warmest and driest months, and in July 2025 the city enjoyed mild, mostly sunny summer weather with an average temperature of 17.2°C (62.9°F).

Across July 2025, daytime highs in Vancouver averaged 20.5°C (68.8°F), while overnight lows settled around 13.4°C (56.2°F). The warmest day reached 24.8°C (76.6°F) on July 13, and even the coolest night only dipped to 10.4°C (50.7°F), making for comfortable, rarely-hot conditions.

The month was notably dry, recording just 21.8mm (0.86in) of total rainfall. Of the 31 days, 25 were essentially rain-free, and only 3 days saw meaningful rain of 1mm or more. The wettest day was July 8, with 15.8mm (0.62in).

Vancouver was also bright and breezy in July 2025:

- **Sunshine:** about 419 hours total, averaging 13.5 hours of sun per day
- **Humidity:** a moderate 75% on average
- **Wind:** a gentle 9.3 km/h (5.8 mph) on average

These conditions make July an excellent time to visit Vancouver for outdoor activities like beach days at English Bay, cycling the Stanley Park seawall, or hiking nearby trails. With long daylight hours, low rainfall, and temperatures that rarely climb uncomfortably high, July offers some of the most reliable summer weather of the year in Vancouver.

Question 5

Which season is the wettest in Vancouver?

Accepted Answer

Spring was the wettest season in Vancouver in 2025, with the March–May period (meteorological spring, MAM) delivering about 720 mm (28.3 inches) of rain — more than any other full meteorological season that year.

A single soggy month drove much of that total: March 2025 alone recorded 413 mm (16.3 inches) of precipitation, making it the wettest month of the entire year in Vancouver. Autumn (September–November 2025) followed closely behind with roughly 599 mm (23.6 inches), confirming that the cooler, transitional months bring the heaviest rainfall to the city. By contrast, the early-winter stretch of January–February 2025 added a comparatively modest 356 mm (14.0 inches).

The clear dry-season winner was summer. From June through August 2025, Vancouver saw just 123 mm (4.8 inches) of rain combined — about one-sixth of the spring total — with June and July each contributing only 24.5 mm (1.0 inch).

For visitors and residents, the pattern is practical: if you want reliably dry weather in Vancouver, the meteorological summer (June to August) is by far the safest bet, while spring and autumn call for a rain jacket and waterproof footwear. Keep in mind that meteorological seasons (spring = March–May, summer = June–August, autumn = September–November, winter = December–February) are used here, so the famously rainy stretch of late autumn and early winter accounts for much of Vancouver's reputation as one of Canada's wettest major cities.
