Question 1

What is the annual temperature range in Toronto?

Accepted Answer

Toronto has a wide annual temperature range, swinging roughly 55°C (100°F) between its hottest and coldest readings in 2025. The city's continental climate brings hot, humid summers and sharply cold winters, so conditions vary dramatically across the calendar year.

In 2025, Toronto's warmest reading peaked at 37.6°C (99.7°F) during June, while the coldest dipped to -17.8°C (0°F) in January. That gives a full annual spread of about 55.4°C (99.7°F) between the two extremes.

Looking at monthly averages, the contrast is just as clear. July was the warmest month with a mean temperature of 23.1°C (73.6°F), while January was the coldest at -4.6°C (23.7°F). The gap between the warmest and coldest months was about 27.7°C (49.9°F), and the overall annual mean temperature in Toronto landed at 8.6°C (47.5°F).

This large temperature range means visitors and residents need a genuinely four-season wardrobe. Summer in Toronto calls for light clothing and sun protection during heat waves above 30°C (86°F), while winter demands heavy coats, layers, and gear rated for sub-zero conditions. Spring and autumn act as transition periods, with March 2025 alone seeing readings from -17.2°C (1°F) up to 18.3°C (65°F). Planning ahead for these swings is essential when spending time outdoors in Toronto.

Question 2

Which months had the most sunshine in Toronto in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Toronto had the most sunshine in July 2025, the city's brightest month with 390.8 hours of sunshine, followed by August (367.8 hours) and September (288.8 hours). Together, these late-summer and early-autumn months were the clear highlight of the year for sun lovers.

Across all of 2025, Toronto recorded 2,395.1 hours of sunshine. July alone delivered roughly 12.6 hours of sun per day, paired with a warm monthly average temperature of 23.1°C (73.6°F), making it the standout month for outdoor plans. The summer months of June through August accounted for 1,017.7 sunshine hours, or about 42.5% of the entire year's sunshine.

At the other end of the scale, February 2025 was Toronto's gloomiest month with just 70.9 hours of sunshine (about 2.5 hours per day), with January close behind at 82.4 hours. In practical terms, July offered roughly 5.5 times more sunshine than February.

If you're planning a visit to Toronto for sightseeing, patio dining, or time along the waterfront, the stretch from July to September in 2025 offered by far the brightest and most reliable conditions. The deep winter months of January and February remained short and overcast, so travelers chasing sunshine will find the back half of summer the most rewarding time in Toronto.

Question 3

How much precipitation did Toronto get in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Toronto received approximately **1,188.5 mm (46.8 inches)** of total precipitation across 2025, spread fairly evenly through the year and averaging about 99 mm (3.9 inches) per month.

The wettest month in Toronto was October 2025, which brought 182.3 mm (7.2 inches) of precipitation. By contrast, January 2025 was the driest month of the year with just 27.2 mm (1.1 inches), reflecting the city's drier mid-winter conditions. Other notably wet months included May at 140.6 mm (5.5 inches) and December at 113.2 mm (4.5 inches).

Looking at the meteorological seasons, autumn (September to November 2025) was the wettest period with 365.8 mm (14.4 inches), narrowly ahead of spring (March to May 2025) at 319.4 mm (12.6 inches) and summer (June to August 2025) at 308.9 mm (12.2 inches). The early winter months of January and February 2025 were the driest stretch, totaling only 81.2 mm (3.2 inches).

For anyone planning a visit, this means Toronto rarely sees a truly dry month, so packing a rain jacket is wise year-round. The relatively even distribution of moisture keeps the city green through summer, while the wetter autumn underscores why October is among the rainiest times to explore Toronto.

Question 4

How humid does Toronto get in summer 2025?

Accepted Answer

Toronto was moderately humid throughout summer 2025 (June 1 to August 31), averaging **68.3% relative humidity** across the meteorological summer (JJA). The city stayed comfortably below the oppressive levels often felt in more tropical climates, but the combination of warmth and moisture still produced a noticeably muggy feel on the hottest days.

Humidity was highest early in the season. June 2025 was the most humid month at **70.5%**, easing slightly to **67.3%** in July and **67.2%** in August. That early-summer moisture paired with intense heat: Toronto hit a summer peak of **37.6°C (99.7°F)** in June, while the seasonal average temperature settled at **21.1°C (70.0°F)**.

Rainfall reinforced the humid pattern, with Toronto receiving **237.9 mm (9.4 in)** of precipitation over the three summer months. Light winds averaging just **11.4 km/h (7.1 mph)** did little to disperse the humidity, allowing muggy conditions to linger on calmer days.

For visitors and residents, this means summer in Toronto generally feels warm and slightly sticky rather than dry. The humidity rarely becomes extreme, so outdoor activities like waterfront walks, patio dining, and lakeside events remain comfortable for most of the season. If you prefer drier air, late August 2025 was marginally less humid than June, making the tail end of summer a good window for extended time outdoors in Toronto.

Question 5

How cold did Toronto get in winter 2024/2025?

Accepted Answer

Toronto's coldest temperature in winter 2024/2025 (December 2024 to February 2025) dropped to **-17.8°C (-0.0°F)** on January 22, 2025, during a sharp late-January cold snap.

Across the full meteorological winter, Toronto averaged a seasonal mean temperature of -3.0°C (26.6°F). Daily highs hovered right around the freezing mark at an average of 0.0°C (32.0°F), while overnight lows averaged -6.2°C (20.9°F). The cold was persistent rather than occasional: of the 90 days from December 2024 through February 2025, Toronto recorded frost (an overnight low below freezing) on 79 nights and saw 40 "ice days" where the temperature stayed below 0°C all day long.

January and February were the harshest stretch, each posting a monthly mean of -4.6°C (23.7°F), compared with a milder December that averaged 0.1°C (32.2°F). On 20 separate nights, the temperature in Toronto fell to -10°C (14°F) or colder, with the deepest chill concentrated in the January 20–22 cold wave.

For residents and visitors, this means winter 2024/2025 in Toronto called for serious cold-weather gear, especially after dark. With four out of nine winter days staying below freezing around the clock, conditions favored outdoor skating and other winter activities, but the frequent sub -10°C nights made wind protection and layered clothing essential throughout the season.
