Question 1

Which season is wettest in Beijing?

Accepted Answer

Summer is by far the wettest season in Beijing, with the meteorological summer of 2025 (June 1 to August 31) delivering 544.3 mm (21.4 in) of rain — about 69% of the city's entire annual total of 789.5 mm (31.1 in).

This pronounced wet season is driven by the East Asian summer monsoon, which concentrates rainfall into just a few midsummer weeks. In 2025, July was the single wettest month with 287.7 mm (11.3 in), followed by August with 210.4 mm (8.3 in). Together these two months accounted for roughly 63% of all the precipitation Beijing received during the year.

The other seasons are markedly drier. Spring (March to May) saw 114.3 mm (4.5 in) and autumn (September to November) brought 126.9 mm (5.0 in), while the winter months of January and February 2025 recorded just 0.8 mm (0.0 in) combined — essentially bone dry.

For visitors and residents, this means Beijing's summer downpours are intense but brief, often arriving as heavy afternoon and evening thunderstorms rather than all-day rain. If you want to avoid the wettest conditions, plan trips for late spring or autumn, when rainfall is light and skies are frequently clear. Travelers heading to Beijing in July or August should pack waterproof gear and build flexibility into outdoor plans, since the heaviest rain of the year falls during these humid summer weeks.

Question 2

What were the temperature extremes in Beijing in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Beijing swung between a scorching high of **40.8°C (105.4°F)** and a bitter low of **-13.8°C (7.2°F)** in 2025, giving the city an enormous annual temperature range of 54.6°C (98°F).

The hottest day of 2025 fell on **June 22**, when the mercury hit 40.8°C (105.4°F). The coldest moment came on the night of **February 7**, when temperatures dropped to -13.8°C (7.2°F). Across the full year, Beijing averaged a mild 14.1°C (57.3°F).

The 2025 records reveal just how sharply Beijing's climate shifts between seasons:

- **23 days** reached 35°C (95°F) or hotter, the threshold for extreme heat
- **94 days** climbed to at least 30°C (86°F)
- **109 days** had freezing nights at or below 0°C (32°F), with 7 of those nights dipping to -10°C (14°F) or colder

July was the warmest month, averaging 28.0°C (82.3°F), while January was the coldest at -1.3°C (29.6°F).

For visitors, this wide swing means timing matters in Beijing. Summer brings intense, often humid heat that calls for sun protection and hydration, especially during the late-June peak. Winter, by contrast, demands heavy layers, as freezing temperatures persist for months. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions, sitting well clear of both the searing summer highs and the deep winter lows recorded across 2025.

Question 3

What is the sunniest time of year in Beijing?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Beijing is late spring through early summer, with June 2025 standing out as the single brightest month at 354.4 hours of sunshine — roughly 11.8 hours of sun per day.

Across 2025, Beijing recorded 3,345.3 total sunshine hours, averaging about 9.2 hours of sun daily over the year. The clearest stretch ran from April to June: April delivered 318.6 hours (about 10.6 hours/day), May 330.5 hours (about 10.7 hours/day), and June peaked at 354.4 hours. Grouped by meteorological season, spring (March–May) was the sunniest at 914.7 hours, just ahead of summer (June–August) at 903.1 hours.

The picture changes mid-summer and into autumn. Despite the long days, July and August saw sunshine dip to 297.3 and 251.4 hours as the rainy season set in. October 2025 was the least sunny month of the year with just 209.4 hours, as cloud and rain increased.

For visitors, this means May and June are Beijing's brightest months for outdoor sightseeing, with warm but not yet peak-monsoon conditions — June averaged a comfortable 27.5°C (81.5°F). Spring also pairs abundant sunshine with relatively low rainfall in April (15.7mm / 0.6in), making it an excellent window for exploring the city before the heavy July rains arrive.

Question 4

What are average summer temperatures in Beijing in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Beijing had an average summer temperature of 27.2°C (80.9°F) during the 2025 meteorological summer (June 1 to August 31), making it a consistently hot and increasingly humid season.

Across these months, daytime highs in Beijing averaged 32.1°C (89.9°F), while nights stayed warm with average lows of 22.6°C (72.6°F). July was the warmest month, with a mean temperature of 28.0°C (82.3°F), just ahead of June at 27.5°C (81.6°F), while August cooled slightly to 26.0°C (78.7°F). The single hottest reading came early in the season on June 22, 2025, when the temperature peaked at 40.8°C (105.4°F).

Heat was the norm rather than the exception. Of the 92 summer days in 2025, Beijing reached at least 30°C (86°F) on 68 days, and climbed to 35°C (95°F) or higher on 23 days. Average humidity over the season was 67.6%, rising sharply in late July and August as the East Asian monsoon brought muggier, more oppressive conditions.

For visitors, this means summer in Beijing in 2025 was reliably warm enough for early-morning sightseeing and evening strolls, but midday outdoor activity often called for shade, water, and sun protection. The drier, slightly cooler stretches in early June offered the most comfortable window, while the high humidity of mid-to-late summer made the heat feel more intense than the thermometer alone suggested.

Question 5

What is the weather like in Beijing in April?

Accepted Answer

April is one of the most pleasant months to visit Beijing, with mild spring temperatures, very low rainfall, and abundant sunshine. In April 2025, the city averaged 17.1°C (62.7°F) across the month.

Daily highs typically reached 24.1°C (75.3°F), while nighttime lows dropped to around 9.9°C (49.8°F), so warm days were paired with cool evenings that called for a light jacket. The month stayed dry overall, recording just 15.7mm (0.62in) of total precipitation across only 3 rainy days. Sunshine was a standout feature, with 318.6 hours over the month, averaging about 10.6 hours of sun per day.

April weather in Beijing can swing quickly, though. The warmest afternoon peaked at 32.7°C (90.9°F), while the coolest morning fell to 6.1°C (43.0°F), and average humidity was a comfortable 31.4%.

For travelers, these conditions make April an excellent time for sightseeing in Beijing. The dry, sunny days are ideal for outdoor landmarks like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the city's parks, where spring blossoms are typically in full display. Just pack layers to handle the wide gap between balmy afternoons and chilly mornings, and you'll be well prepared for one of Beijing's most rewarding seasons.
