Question 1

What is the sunniest time of year in Prague?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Prague is the summer, and August 2025 was the brightest month of all with roughly **349.7 hours of sunshine**. The warm season from June to August clearly outshines the rest of the calendar.

Across the three summer months of 2025 (June to August), Prague recorded about 910 hours of sunshine, averaging just over 303 hours per month. June was the second-sunniest month at 322.7 hours, while spring also performed strongly, with May reaching 260.8 hours and April 258.0 hours. In total, Prague logged around 2,326.6 hours of sunshine over the full 2025 calendar year.

These bright summer months coincided with the warmest weather, as August 2025 saw an average temperature of 19.4°C (66.9°F) and a peak high of 35.3°C (95.5°F). The trade-off is that summer is also the wettest period: August brought 174.9 mm (6.9 in) of rain, so sunshine often arrived between heavier afternoon showers.

At the other end of the scale, January 2025 was the dimmest month with only 70.1 hours of sunshine, followed closely by December. For travelers planning long days of sightseeing, walking tours, or river cruises, late spring through summer offers Prague's most reliable daylight. If you prefer fewer downpours alongside generous sun, April and May are an excellent compromise, pairing 250-plus hours of monthly sunshine with noticeably lighter rainfall than the peak summer weeks.

Question 2

Which season is the wettest in Prague?

Accepted Answer

Summer is the wettest season in Prague, with the meteorological summer of 2025 (June 1 to August 31) delivering 439.1 mm (17.3 inches) of rain — more than any other season that year.

That summer total accounted for roughly 41% of Prague's entire 2025 rainfall, which reached 1,078.3 mm (42.5 inches) across the full calendar year. The wet pattern actually peaked just after summer: September 2025 was the single rainiest month at 190.1 mm (7.5 inches), followed closely by August at 174.9 mm (6.9 inches). By comparison, the other seasons were far drier — spring (March to May 2025) brought 187.4 mm, autumn (September to November 2025) totalled 347.9 mm, and the winter months of January and February 2025 saw just 87.8 mm combined.

The driest stretch came at the very end of the year, with December 2025 recording only 16.1 mm (0.6 inches).

For visitors, this means Prague's warmest months also carry the highest chance of rain, often in the form of heavy summer thunderstorms rather than all-day drizzle. If you prefer drier conditions for sightseeing, the late autumn and early winter weeks tend to be the most settled, while a packable rain jacket is well worth bringing for any June-through-September trip to Prague.

Question 3

What were the temperature extremes in Prague in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Prague swung between a high of **35.7°C (96.3°F)** and a low of **-13.0°C (8.6°F)** in 2025, giving the city an annual temperature range of 48.7°C (87.7°F).

The hottest day arrived on **2 July 2025**, when the mercury peaked at 35.7°C (96.3°F). The coldest reading came months earlier on **19 February 2025**, when the temperature dipped to -13.0°C (8.6°F) during the late-winter cold snap. On a daily-average basis, the single warmest day was 15 August 2025 at 27.3°C (81.1°F), while the coldest averaged just -6.3°C (20.7°F) on 18 February 2025.

Heat and cold were both well represented across the year in Prague:

- **24 days** reached 30°C (86°F) or higher
- **4 days** climbed to 35°C (95°F) or above
- **100 days** recorded sub-zero lows (frost days)
- **5 ice days** stayed below 0°C (32°F) even at their warmest

For visitors, these 2025 figures show that Prague delivers a true four-season continental climate. Summer can turn genuinely hot, so light clothing and hydration matter for sightseeing in July and August. Winter, by contrast, brings frequent frost and the occasional hard freeze, making a warm coat essential from December through February. Spring and autumn sit comfortably between these extremes, offering the mildest and most stable conditions for exploring the city.

Question 4

What are the average summer temperatures in Prague?

Accepted Answer

Prague enjoyed a warm, comfortable summer in 2025, with an average temperature of around **19.8°C (67.6°F)** across the meteorological summer (June 1 to August 31).

Daytime conditions were the main draw, as average daily highs reached **26.6°C (79.9°F)**, while nights stayed mild with average lows of **12.9°C (55.1°F)**. Of the three summer months, June was the warmest in Prague, averaging **20.3°C (68.6°F)**, just ahead of July at 19.7°C (67.5°F) and August at 19.4°C (66.9°F).

The 2025 summer also delivered plenty of genuine heat. Prague recorded **22 days at or above 30°C (86°F)** and a generous 56 days reaching at least 25°C (77°F). The hottest day of the season peaked at **35.7°C (96.3°F)** on July 2, 2025, while the coolest night dipped to 4.7°C (40.5°F) in late August.

For visitors, these numbers point to a reliably warm summer climate that is ideal for sightseeing, riverside terraces, and evening walks across the city. The frequent warm afternoons mean lightweight clothing is best, but the comfortable nighttime temperatures and occasional cooler spells make it easy to sleep and stay active. Travelers sensitive to heat may prefer June or late August in Prague, when conditions are typically a touch gentler than the peak heat-wave days of high summer.

Question 5

What is the weather like in Prague in October?

Accepted Answer

Prague in October is cool, damp, and distinctly autumnal, with an average temperature of 9.3°C (48.8°F) in October 2025 and a clear downward trend toward winter as the month progresses.

Daytime highs in Prague averaged 13.8°C (56.9°F), while nights cooled sharply to an average low of 5.2°C (41.4°F). The month spanned a wide range: the warmest afternoon reached 19.6°C (67.3°F) on October 23, but two frosty nights dipped below freezing, including a low of −2.4°C (27.7°F) on October 19.

October was also fairly wet and grey. Prague recorded 67.8mm (2.7 in) of total precipitation, with 15 days seeing at least 1mm of rain. Sunshine was limited to about 98 hours for the month, averaging just over 3 hours per day, and humidity stayed high at around 82%. Winds were generally light at 9.5 km/h (5.9 mph) on average.

For visitors, this means October in Prague calls for layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, and an umbrella. Mild, pleasant afternoons are still common and ideal for sightseeing in the historic centre, but early mornings and evenings turn cold quickly, so plan indoor breaks at cafés or museums. The mix of golden autumn colours and fewer crowds makes it a scenic, budget-friendly time to explore the city, provided you come prepared for changeable, often rainy conditions.
