Question 1

What is the sunniest time of year in Dublin?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Dublin is late spring through summer, with **August 2025** taking the top spot at 284.7 hours of sunshine — roughly 9.2 hours per day. **May 2025** was a close second with 262.6 hours, making the May-to-August window the brightest stretch of the year.

Across all of 2025, Dublin recorded 1,805.6 hours of sunshine, averaging just under 5 hours of sun per day. The standout months were:

- **August:** 284.7 hours (the sunniest month)
- **May:** 262.6 hours
- **April:** 196.9 hours

Interestingly, spring (March–May) edged out summer for total sunshine, delivering 633.5 hours versus 623.6 hours in summer (June–August). August also paired its long sunny days with very little rain, just 26.5 mm (1.0 in) and a mild average temperature of 16.8°C (62.2°F).

At the other end of the scale, the darkest months in Dublin were October (68.3 hours) and February (69.4 hours), when short days and overcast skies kept sunshine to a minimum.

For visitors, this means May and August are the best bets for bright, dry conditions in Dublin, ideal for exploring the city, coastal walks, or day trips. If you want long daylight hours combined with comfortable temperatures and the lowest rainfall, late summer 2025 data points clearly to August as Dublin's sunniest and most reliable month.

Question 2

Which season is the wettest in Dublin?

Accepted Answer

Autumn is the wettest season in Dublin, with the city recording 259.1 mm (10.2 inches) of rainfall during meteorological autumn 2025 (September to November) — more than any other season that year.

Across the three autumn months, precipitation was consistently high in Dublin: September brought 82.2 mm (3.2 in), October added 76.5 mm (3.0 in), and November was the single wettest month of the entire year at 100.4 mm (4.0 in). By comparison, summer 2025 (June to August) totalled 182.3 mm (7.2 in), spring (March to May) saw 169.4 mm (6.7 in), and the January–February portion of winter 2025 was the driest stretch at just 127.4 mm (5.0 in). For context, Dublin's total rainfall across all of 2025 reached 793.0 mm (31.2 in).

These figures show that Dublin's wet season clearly peaks in autumn, when Atlantic weather systems track most frequently across Ireland's east coast. If you are planning a visit and hoping to avoid the heaviest rain, the spring months — and especially March 2025, the driest month with only 19.3 mm (0.8 in) — offer noticeably better conditions. Travellers heading to Dublin in November should pack waterproofs and plan for indoor alternatives, as it is statistically the rainiest month of the year.

Question 3

What were the temperature extremes in Dublin in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Dublin's temperature extremes in 2025 ranged from a high of 30.1°C (86.2°F) to a low of -4.3°C (24.3°F), giving the city a full annual swing of about 34.4°C (61.9°F).

The hottest day of the year came on 11 July 2025, when the temperature in Dublin peaked at 30.1°C (86.2°F). The coldest point arrived earlier, on the night of 6 February 2025, when the thermometer dropped to -4.3°C (24.3°F). Across the whole of 2025, Dublin's average temperature settled at a mild 11.0°C (51.8°F).

These extremes were short-lived rather than typical. Dublin recorded only 4 days in 2025 where the daytime high reached 25°C (77°F) or more, and frost nights below 0°C (32°F) occurred on 24 occasions, mostly in January and February.

- **Warmest month:** July, averaging 16.8°C (62.2°F)
- **Coldest month:** January, averaging 4.6°C (40.3°F)

For visitors and residents, this means Dublin's climate in 2025 stayed firmly temperate, with genuine heat and hard frost both being rare events. Pack layers rather than extremes: a warm summer day in Dublin rarely demands more than a light shirt, while the occasional winter cold snap calls for a proper coat and gloves.

Question 4

How windy is Dublin throughout the year?

Accepted Answer

Dublin is a consistently breezy city, averaging 13.8 km/h (8.6 mph) of wind across 2025, with the strongest winds arriving in late winter and the calmest conditions in spring.

The windiest month in Dublin during 2025 was February, which averaged 16.8 km/h (10.4 mph), followed closely by December at 15.6 km/h (9.7 mph) and June at 15.6 km/h (9.7 mph). The calmest stretch came in spring: April was the least windy month of the year at just 11.2 km/h (7.0 mph), with March and May close behind around 11.5 km/h (7.1 mph).

Grouped by meteorological season, spring (March to May) was the most settled at 11.8 km/h (7.3 mph), while autumn (September to November) and summer (June to August) sat higher at roughly 14.3 km/h (8.9 mph) and 14.2 km/h (8.8 mph). Across the whole of 2025, monthly wind speeds in Dublin stayed within a narrow band of 11.2 to 16.8 km/h (7.0 to 10.4 mph).

For visitors and residents, this means Dublin rarely sees calm, still days, but it also avoids extreme gales in its monthly averages. Spring offers the gentlest conditions for cycling, walking along the coast, or outdoor dining, while a light jacket and a steady wind are worth expecting year-round in Dublin.

Question 5

How humid is Dublin throughout the year?

Accepted Answer

Dublin is a consistently humid city, with relative humidity averaging 80.1% across 2025 and staying high in every season. The Irish capital's coastal, maritime setting keeps moisture levels elevated year-round, rarely dipping far below 70%.

Humidity in Dublin peaks in the colder, darker months. The most humid month of 2025 was January at 86.8%, followed closely by November (86.7%) and October (85.6%). The least humid month was May at 72.2%, giving an annual spread of just 14.6 percentage points between the wettest and driest air.

Seasonal averages confirm the pattern:

- **Autumn (September–November):** 84.5% — the most humid season
- **Winter (January–February):** 83.7%
- **Summer (June–August):** 76.3%
- **Spring (March–May):** 75.7% — the most comfortable

Even in its driest stretch, the air in Dublin remains moist by international standards, with three months of 2025 (January, October and November) averaging at or above 85%.

For visitors and residents, this high humidity means cooler temperatures often feel damp and the "raw" chill common in Irish winters, while warm summer days seldom feel oppressively sticky because peak temperatures stay moderate. Late spring, around May, offers Dublin's freshest, least humid conditions — ideal for outdoor activities. Quick-drying layers and light waterproofs are practical choices given how persistently humid the Dublin climate is throughout the year.
