Question 1

How hot does Marrakech get in summer?

Accepted Answer

Marrakech gets very hot in summer, with average daily highs of 40.2°C (104.4°F) across the meteorological summer (June 1 to August 31) in 2025. Daytime heat is the defining feature, while nights stay much milder.

During summer 2025, the average daily low was just 17.9°C (64.2°F), giving a comfortable overnight drop, and the overall mean temperature for the season was 28.7°C (83.7°F). The peak of the heat came on 16 July 2025, when Marrakech reached 46.1°C (115.0°F).

Extreme heat was common rather than occasional. Across the three summer months, the city recorded:

- 77 days with highs of at least 35°C (95°F)
- 50 days reaching 40°C (104°F) or higher
- 12 days hitting 45°C (113°F) or above

July and August were the hottest months, both averaging highs near 40.9°C (105.6°F) and 40.8°C (105.4°F), while June was slightly cooler with an average high of 38.9°C (102.0°F).

For visitors, this means summer in Marrakech demands sun protection, frequent hydration, and a midday break indoors or by the pool. The dry desert air and cool evenings make early mornings and after-sunset hours the best time to explore the medina and gardens. Travelers who prefer milder conditions may find spring or autumn more comfortable than the intense summer heat of 2025.

Question 2

Which season is wettest in Marrakech, and how much rain does it get?

Accepted Answer

Spring (March to May) was the wettest season in Marrakech in 2025, delivering about 79 mm (3.1 in) of rain, while the summer months were nearly bone dry. Across the whole year, Marrakech recorded a modest annual total of roughly 191 mm (7.5 in), confirming its semi-arid climate.

Rainfall in Marrakech is concentrated in the cooler half of the year. During spring 2025 (March 1 to May 31), April was the standout month with 37.2 mm (1.5 in), supported by 32.5 mm (1.3 in) in March. By contrast, summer 2025 (June 1 to August 31) brought just 2.4 mm (0.1 in) in total, with June seeing a near-total drought of only 0.2 mm.

The single wettest month of 2025 came late in the year: December produced 70.6 mm (2.8 in) of rain, more than a third of the annual total in one month. Over the full year, measurable rain fell on only about 12 days, underlining how rare wet weather is here.

For travelers, this means Marrakech offers reliably dry conditions for most outdoor plans, especially from June through October. If you want to avoid the heaviest showers, steer clear of the spring transition and early winter, when the occasional downpour is most likely. The rest of the time, sunshine dominates Marrakech, with the city banking over 3,600 hours of sunshine in 2025.

Question 3

What is the sunniest time of year in Marrakech?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Marrakech is the summer, with July 2025 standing out as the brightest month of all, recording 377.9 hours of sunshine — an average of about 12.2 hours of sun per day.

Across the full 2025 calendar year, Marrakech soaked up a remarkable **3,622.5 hours of sunshine**, which works out to roughly 9.9 hours of sun on an average day. The summer months (June to August 2025) alone delivered 1,054.3 hours of clear, bright skies. The three sunniest months of 2025 were:

- **July:** 377.9 hours (~12.2 hours/day)
- **August:** 361.5 hours (~11.7 hours/day)
- **May:** 327.0 hours (~10.5 hours/day)

At the other end of the scale, December 2025 was the dimmest month with 222.7 hours, or about 7.2 hours of daylight sun per day — still generous by most standards.

This abundance of sunshine is one of the defining features of Marrakech's climate, though the brightest months coincide with intense summer heat, when average temperatures climbed to 28.9°C (84.0°F) in July. For travellers who want long, sunny days without the peak heat, May and October offer an excellent balance, pairing 320+ hours of monthly sunshine with milder mean temperatures around 22°C (72°F). Whether you visit Marrakech in spring, summer, or autumn, near-constant blue skies are practically guaranteed.

How much does the temperature vary throughout the year in Marrakech?

Accepted Answer

Marrakech has a wide annual temperature range, with monthly average temperatures swinging by about 18.4°C (33°F) between the coolest and warmest months in 2025. The city's overall yearly average sat at 20.6°C (69°F).

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) act as comfortable transition periods, with averages climbing from 16°C (61°F) in March to the mid-20s°C before cooling again. Travelers should pack for scorching daytime heat in summer yet still prepare for surprisingly chilly mornings in winter, when overnight lows can flirt with freezing.
