Question 1

When is the sunniest time of year in Lima?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Lima is the late summer and early autumn stretch from **January to March**, when the city enjoys clear skies and its warmest, brightest weather of the year. In 2025, March was the single sunniest month with **338.1 hours of sunshine**, averaging nearly 11 hours of sun per day.

Across the January–March period, Lima averaged about **301 hours of sunshine per month** — roughly 10 hours of sun daily. January delivered 307.0 hours and February 258.4 hours, and these sunny months also brought the year's highest temperatures, with mean readings of 21.7–23.6°C (71–74°F) and daytime highs near 28°C (82°F).

This contrasts sharply with Lima's grey winter. The least sunny month in 2025 was June, with just **146.4 hours of sunshine** (under 5 hours per day), as the coastal fog known locally as the *garúa* settled over the city from June through August. Across the full year, Lima recorded **2,901.6 total hours of sunshine** in 2025, an annual average of about 7.9 hours per day.

If you want the brightest, warmest conditions for sightseeing or the beach, plan your visit to Lima between January and March. Travelers in the June–August window should expect persistent low cloud and noticeably dimmer days, though the near-total absence of rain means outdoor plans are rarely washed out at any time of year.

Question 2

What is the most humid time of year in Lima?

Accepted Answer

The most humid time of year in Lima is the winter, with humidity peaking in July 2025 at an average of **85.8%**. Lima's coastal desert climate keeps the air damp year-round, but the grey, overcast winter months feel noticeably more humid.

During meteorological winter 2025 (June to August), Lima averaged **85.4% relative humidity**, the highest of any season. These months brought the city's characteristic *garúa* — a persistent coastal mist — alongside the lowest sunshine totals of the year, averaging just **160 hours of sunshine per month**. Winter temperatures were mild, averaging **16.6°C (61.8°F)**.

By contrast, the least humid month of 2025 was March at **77.4%**, part of the warmer, brighter season. Over January to March, Lima averaged **79.4% humidity** with roughly **301 hours of sunshine per month** — nearly double the winter figure. Across the full year, Lima's humidity stayed high, averaging **82.6%**, with only an **8.4 percentage-point** spread between the most and least humid months.

For visitors, this means Lima rarely feels dry. The damp winter air, combined with thick low cloud, can make the mild 16°C (61°F) temperatures feel cooler and clammier than the numbers suggest. If you prefer brighter, less humid conditions, the late summer and early autumn months of January through March 2025 offered the most sunshine and the lowest humidity of the year in Lima.

Question 3

What is the annual temperature range in Lima?

Accepted Answer

Lima has a remarkably mild and stable climate, with the annual temperature range staying narrow throughout 2025. The gap between the warmest and coolest months was only about 7.6°C (13.7°F), making Lima one of the more temperate coastal capitals to visit year-round.

In 2025, Lima's warmest month was February, with an average temperature of 23.6°C (74.5°F), while the coolest month was August, averaging just 16.0°C (60.8°F). Across the full year, the city's mean temperature settled at 19.1°C (66.4°F), with average daily highs of 24.7°C (76.5°F) and average lows of 15.1°C (59.2°F).

Looking at the extremes, the highest monthly average high reached 28.6°C (83.5°F) in March, and the lowest monthly average low dipped to 12.3°C (54.1°F) in August. That gives a total spread of roughly 16.3°C (29.3°F) between Lima's hottest daytime peaks and coolest nighttime lows over the year.

This gentle temperature pattern means Lima rarely sees true heat or cold. The warm season runs from December to March, ideal for the coast and beaches, while the cooler months from June to September bring grey, mild days that are comfortable for sightseeing. Packing a light jacket for evenings is usually all you need to handle Lima's modest seasonal swings.

Question 4

How much rainfall does Lima get per year?

Accepted Answer

Lima receives remarkably little rain, recording just **44.4 mm (1.75 inches)** of total precipitation across all of 2025. This makes Lima one of the driest capital cities in the world, with a desert-like climate despite its coastal location on the Pacific.

The rain that does fall is concentrated in the early part of the year. February 2025 was the wettest month with 28.6 mm (1.13 inches), followed by March at 7.9 mm (0.31 inches) and January at 5.1 mm (0.20 inches). Together, these three months accounted for the large majority of Lima's annual rainfall.

The rest of the year was extremely dry. Four separate months — July, August, September, and November 2025 — recorded essentially no measurable rainfall at all (0.0 mm). The entire meteorological winter period of June to August 2025 produced just 0.6 mm (0.02 inches) combined, and across the whole year only about 8 days saw any precipitation.

For visitors and residents, this means Lima rarely requires an umbrella. Instead of true rain, the city's winter months are dominated by a persistent coastal mist and overcast skies known locally as the "garúa," which adds moisture and dampness without producing significant rainfall. If you want to avoid even the small chance of rain in Lima, the dry season from May through December is the safest bet, while January through March carries the highest likelihood of a brief shower.
