Question 1

What is the sunniest time of year in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Lisbon is the summer, with August 2025 standing out as the brightest month of all, recording 394.2 hours of sunshine — roughly 12.7 hours of sun per day.

Across meteorological summer 2025 (June to August), Lisbon enjoyed 1,075 hours of sunshine, averaging about 11.7 hours per day. The peak months were clear: August led with 394.2 hours, followed by July at 355.4 hours and May at 330.2 hours. This sunshine came hand in hand with warmth and dry skies, as summer temperatures averaged 22.2°C (72.0°F) and the three months saw a combined total of just 3.9mm of rainfall. August itself was essentially rain-free at 0.0mm, while daytime highs reached up to 38.8°C (101.8°F).

For context, Lisbon's sunshine drops sharply in winter, with February 2025 being the dimmest month at only 116.1 hours. Over the full year, the city accumulated an impressive 2,867 hours of sunshine in 2025.

If you are planning a trip built around clear, dry weather, the stretch from late spring through summer is ideal in Lisbon, with July and August offering the longest, most reliable sunny days for beach trips, sightseeing, and outdoor dining. Just be prepared for occasional heat spikes during these brightest weeks.

Question 2

Which season is the wettest in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

Spring was the wettest season in Lisbon in 2025, with the meteorological spring period (March 1 to May 31) recording about 541 mm (21.3 in) of rainfall. This made it noticeably wetter than any other season across the year.

Across 2025, Lisbon's rainfall was heavily concentrated in the cooler half of the year. Spring (March–May) led with roughly 541 mm (21.3 in), followed by winter 2025 (January–February) at about 416 mm (16.4 in) and autumn (September–November) at around 359 mm (14.1 in). Summer (June–August) was by far the driest stretch, delivering just 3.9 mm (0.15 in) in total. The single wettest month was November 2025 with 320 mm (12.6 in), while August saw essentially no rain at all.

In total, Lisbon received about 1,522 mm (59.9 in) of precipitation over the full 2025 calendar year, spread very unevenly between the wet and dry halves.

For planning, this pattern means Lisbon's weather is strongly seasonal: spring and late autumn bring the heaviest rain, so travellers should pack waterproofs for visits between March and May or in November. If you want reliably dry conditions, the summer months from June to August are the safest bet, when rainfall in Lisbon is close to zero and sunshine dominates.

Question 3

What are the average summer temperatures in Lisbon in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Lisbon enjoyed warm, dry summer conditions in 2025, with an average temperature of 22.3°C (72.1°F) across the meteorological summer (June 1 to August 31).

Temperatures climbed steadily through the season. June averaged 21.6°C (70.9°F), while August was the warmest month at 22.7°C (72.9°F). Even on the coolest summer nights, lows stayed mild at around 13.1°C (55.6°F), so evenings rarely felt cold. The standout event was a heat spike in June 2025, when the thermometer reached a peak high of 41.0°C (105.8°F).

Summer is firmly Lisbon's dry season. Across all three months the city recorded just 3.9mm (0.15in) of total rainfall, with August seeing essentially no rain at all. Average humidity held at a comfortable 65.3%, kept in check by the Atlantic breeze.

These conditions make Lisbon an excellent summer destination in 2025 for sightseeing, beach trips, and outdoor dining. The reliably warm days and near-absence of rain favour outdoor plans, though visitors should pack sun protection and stay hydrated during the occasional heatwave, when temperatures can briefly surge well above 40°C (104°F).

Question 4

What was the hottest day in Lisbon in 2025?

Accepted Answer

The hottest day in Lisbon in 2025 was **June 29**, when the temperature peaked at **41.0°C (105.8°F)**. This record high arrived during an intense late-June heatwave rather than in the typical peak of midsummer.

That heatwave delivered three consecutive scorching days in Lisbon: June 28 reached 40.5°C (104.9°F), June 29 hit the annual high of 41.0°C (105.8°F), and June 30 climbed to 40.6°C (105.1°F). Even overnight the air stayed warm, with a low of 19.4°C (66.9°F) on the record day and a daily mean of 29.8°C (85.6°F).

The summer of 2025 was hot well beyond that single spike. Across the year, Lisbon recorded 13 days at or above 35°C (95°F) and 47 days at or above 30°C (86°F), with a second major hot spell in mid-August peaking at 38.8°C (101.8°F) on August 12.

For visitors, these figures show that Lisbon's most extreme heat can strike as early as late June, so travelers planning summer trips should prepare for the possibility of 40°C+ (104°F+) conditions. On such days it is wise to stay hydrated, seek shade during the early afternoon, and schedule sightseeing for the cooler morning or evening hours.

Question 5

What is the annual temperature range in Lisbon?

Accepted Answer

Lisbon has a mild, Mediterranean-style climate with a moderate annual temperature range, averaging **16.7°C (62.1°F)** across 2025 while swinging from near-freezing winter nights to scorching summer afternoons.

Looking at monthly averages, the gap between Lisbon's coldest and warmest months in 2025 was just **11.4°C (20.5°F)**. December was the coolest month at a mean of **11.3°C (52.3°F)**, while August was the warmest at **22.7°C (72.9°F)**. This relatively narrow spread reflects the ocean's moderating influence, keeping the city comfortable for much of the year.

The extremes, however, were far wider. The absolute temperature range in Lisbon during 2025 reached **40.8°C (73.4°F)**, stretching from a chilly low of **0.2°C (32.4°F)** in January to a peak of **41.0°C (105.8°F)** in June. These figures show that while typical days stay mild, Lisbon can still deliver brief cold snaps and intense summer heat spikes.

For visitors, this means Lisbon rarely feels harsh on a month-to-month basis, making it a year-round destination. Spring and autumn sit comfortably in the mid-to-high teens Celsius, while summer brings reliable warmth. Just pack a light layer for cool winter mornings and plan to stay hydrated if you travel during a summer heat wave.
