Question 1

Which months had the most sunshine in Madrid in 2025?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest month in Madrid in 2025 was July, which recorded 433 hours of sunshine — an average of roughly 14 hours of sun per day. The peak of the sunny season ran through the summer months (June to August), making midsummer by far the brightest time of year in the Spanish capital.

The three sunniest months of 2025 were:

- **July:** 433 hours (about 14.0 hours/day)
- **August:** 399 hours (about 12.9 hours/day)
- **June:** 363 hours (about 12.1 hours/day)

Across the full year, Madrid accumulated 2,975 hours of sunshine, and the summer (June–August) alone delivered 1,195 of those hours — roughly 40% of the annual total. This sunshine came with real heat: July averaged 25.6°C (78.1°F) with highs reaching 38.1°C (100.6°F), while August was the warmest month at 26.3°C (79.3°F). The cloudiest stretch was the opposite end of the calendar, with March seeing just 106 hours and December only 126 hours.

For visitors, these figures confirm that Madrid is reliably sunny in summer, ideal for sightseeing, rooftop terraces, and day trips. Keep in mind the intensity, though — with double-digit hours of strong sun and highs near 38°C (100°F), midsummer afternoons in Madrid call for shade, water, and sun protection. Late spring and early autumn offer a gentler balance of long, sunny days without the most extreme heat.

Question 2

What was the hottest day in Madrid in 2025?

Accepted Answer

The hottest day in Madrid in 2025 was **August 17**, when the temperature peaked at **39.2°C (102.6°F)**. This made it the single warmest day of the entire year in the Spanish capital.

That summer heat came in a tight cluster. The very next-hottest day was August 16, 2025, with a high of 39.0°C (102.2°F), and the day-time peak on August 17 was paired with a sultry overnight low of 22.1°C (71.8°F) — a so-called tropical night. The daily mean temperature that day reached 30.3°C (86.5°F), well above Madrid's typical summer average.

Extreme heat was a recurring theme across the season rather than a one-off. In 2025, Madrid recorded **46 days at or above 35°C (95°F)**, though no day quite reached the 40°C (104°F) mark. August was the warmest month overall, averaging 26.3°C (79.3°F).

For visitors, these figures show that Madrid's mid-summer can be genuinely intense, especially in the second half of August. If you are sensitive to heat, plan sightseeing for early morning or evening, stay hydrated, and take advantage of the city's shaded plazas and afternoon siesta rhythm during the hottest weeks of the Madrid summer.

Question 3

Which season was the wettest in Madrid in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Summer was the wettest season in Madrid in 2025, with the meteorological summer (June to August 2025) recording 31.4 mm (1.24 in) of rainfall — narrowly ahead of spring.

This is an unusual result for Madrid, where summers are typically the driest part of the year. The summer total in 2025 was driven almost entirely by a wet June, which alone delivered 20.6 mm (0.81 in). Rainfall then fell away sharply, with July adding 8.6 mm (0.34 in) and August just 2.2 mm (0.09 in).

Spring (March to May 2025) came a close second at 28.4 mm (1.12 in), making the two warmer seasons responsible for the bulk of Madrid's annual rainfall. Autumn (September to November 2025) was much drier at 14.7 mm (0.58 in), while the winter months of January and February 2025 saw only 2.1 mm (0.08 in) combined. Across the full calendar year, Madrid received just 77.0 mm (3.03 in) of precipitation, underlining its dry, semi-arid climate.

For visitors, this means rain is rarely a concern in Madrid at any time of year. Even in the wettest season of 2025, totals stayed low and showers were concentrated in a few days, so outdoor sightseeing and dining remained reliable. The one practical takeaway is that early summer can bring the occasional heavier downpour, so a light rain layer is worth packing for a June trip.

Question 4

How cold does Madrid get in winter 2024/2025?

Accepted Answer

Madrid stays chilly but rarely bitterly cold in winter, with Winter 2024/2025 (December 2024 to February 2025) averaging a daytime high of 12.5°C (54.4°F) and an overnight low of just 1.7°C (35.1°F).

Across the full meteorological winter, Madrid's average temperature was 6.7°C (44.1°F). The coldest night of the season came on January 15, 2025, when temperatures dropped to −6.7°C (19.9°F). Frost was common after dark: Madrid recorded 29 nights below freezing (0°C/32°F) over the three months, so sub-zero mornings were the norm rather than the exception.

Despite the cold nights, daytime conditions were often mild. Even in the depths of winter, Madrid reached a high of 18.3°C (64.9°F) on January 11, 2025, and afternoons regularly climbed into the low teens Celsius (mid-50s°F). This wide day-to-night swing is typical of Madrid's high-altitude, continental climate at 706m (2,316ft) elevation, where clear, dry air allows heat to escape quickly after sunset.

For visitors, this means Madrid winters call for layers: a warm coat, hat, and gloves for crisp, frosty mornings, but lighter clothing is often comfortable under the midday sun. Sightseeing remains very doable, and the dry conditions—Madrid saw minimal precipitation this winter—make outdoor exploration pleasant whenever the sun is up.

Question 5

What are the windiest months in Madrid?

Accepted Answer

Madrid is a relatively calm, low-wind city, and in 2025 its windiest conditions arrived in July and March. Across the full year, average wind speeds in Madrid stayed light, averaging just 10.5 km/h (6.5 mph).

The breeziest month was July 2025 at 12.6 km/h (7.8 mph), closely followed by March at 12.4 km/h (7.7 mph) and April at 11.2 km/h (7.0 mph). The calmest month was February, when average wind speeds eased to just 7.0 km/h (4.3 mph). Throughout 2025, monthly averages stayed within a narrow band of 7.0 to 12.6 km/h, so even the windiest months felt like a gentle breeze rather than a gusty one.

Grouped by meteorological season, spring (March to May) was the windiest period at an average of 11.5 km/h (7.1 mph), while winter (December to February) was the calmest at 9.1 km/h (5.7 mph). Summer averaged 11.1 km/h and autumn 10.3 km/h.

For visitors, this means Madrid rarely sees disruptive winds at any time of year. The light, steady breezes make spring and summer especially pleasant for walking tours, rooftop dining, and outdoor sightseeing, with little need to plan around windy weather.
