Question 1

Which month is the wettest in Taipei?

Accepted Answer

**October was the wettest month in Taipei in 2025**, with 401.6 mm (15.8 in) of rainfall—nearly ten times the amount recorded in the driest month.

Across the full 2025 calendar year, Taipei collected roughly 2,065 mm (81.3 in) of precipitation, so October alone accounted for close to a fifth of the annual total. The second-wettest month was May with 316.0 mm (12.4 in), followed by July at 244.3 mm (9.6 in). At the other end of the scale, January was the driest month with just 43.9 mm (1.7 in). Despite the heavy October rain, the month stayed warm and reasonably bright, averaging 27.0°C (80.6°F) with about 201 sunshine hours.

Grouped by meteorological season, spring (March–May) was the wettest stretch of 2025 at around 720 mm (28.3 in), while autumn (September–November) followed at roughly 629 mm (24.8 in). The standout October figure reflects Taipei's exposure to the late-season typhoon and northeast-monsoon period, when slow-moving systems can dump intense rainfall over the city.

For visitors, this means October in Taipei can be unexpectedly wet despite its pleasant temperatures, so packing rain gear is wise. If you want the lowest chance of heavy downpours, the winter months of December through February are noticeably drier and make a more reliable window for outdoor sightseeing.

Question 2

What were the temperature extremes in Taipei in 2025?

Accepted Answer

In 2025, Taipei's temperatures ranged from a high of 38.0°C (100.4°F) down to a low of 6.9°C (44.4°F), giving the city a full annual span of about 31°C (56°F) between its hottest and coldest readings.

The hottest temperature in Taipei in 2025 was reached in October, when the thermometer peaked at 38.0°C (100.4°F). The coldest reading came at the opposite end of the calendar, with January dipping to 6.9°C (44.4°F). Across the whole year, the average temperature settled at a mild 23.4°C (74.1°F), reflecting Taipei's warm, humid subtropical climate.

On a monthly basis, August was the warmest stretch of 2025 with an average temperature of 29.5°C (85.1°F), while January was the coolest at 15.5°C (59.9°F). The summer-to-autumn period stayed consistently hot, with monthly highs frequently climbing above 36°C (97°F) from June through October.

These extremes have practical implications for visitors and residents alike. The intense heat from late spring into autumn makes lightweight clothing, sun protection, and hydration essential, especially during the 38°C (100°F) peaks. By contrast, Taipei's brief cool spell around January rarely approaches freezing, so a light jacket is usually enough even on the year's coldest days. Overall, 2025 confirms Taipei as a destination where heat, rather than cold, is the weather factor to plan around.

Question 3

When is the sunniest time of year in Taipei?

Accepted Answer

The sunniest time of year in Taipei is the summer, with August 2025 being the brightest month of all. Taipei recorded roughly 2,293 hours of sunshine across 2025, averaging about 6.3 hours of sun per day over the year.

Sunshine peaks sharply during the meteorological summer (June to August 2025), which alone delivered around 835 hours, or an average of 278 hours per month. The standout months were:

- **August 2025:** 308 hours (about 9.9 hours per day)
- **September 2025:** 278 hours (about 9.3 hours per day)
- **June 2025:** 277 hours (about 9.2 hours per day)

This sunny stretch also coincides with Taipei's warmest weather, as August 2025 averaged 29.5°C (85.1°F), so visitors should plan for hot, bright conditions.

By contrast, the gloomiest period falls in late winter. February 2025 was the dullest month with only 70 hours of sunshine, equivalent to roughly 2.5 hours per day, while December (107 hours) and November (108 hours) were similarly overcast.

For travelers chasing clear skies, the late-summer window from August into September offers Taipei's most reliable sunshine, ideal for sightseeing, day hikes, and rooftop views. Just keep in mind that these bright months are also humid and occasionally interrupted by afternoon showers and passing typhoons, so pairing sun-soaked plans with flexible indoor options is wise when visiting Taipei.

Question 4

How hot and humid is Taipei in summer?

Accepted Answer

Taipei summers are hot and notably humid, with average humidity around 79.6% and mean temperatures near 28.8°C (83.8°F) during the 2025 summer months (June 1 to August 31). The combination of high heat and moisture is what makes Taipei feel especially sticky and intense from June through August.

During summer 2025, the air stayed heavy throughout the season, peaking at 82.0% average humidity in July. Daytime highs climbed steadily, reaching a seasonal peak of 37.9°C (100.2°F) in August, while even the coolest nights rarely dipped below 22.0°C (71.6°F). This blend of high temperatures and persistent humidity means the "feels-like" discomfort is often greater than the thermometer alone suggests.

Rainfall added to the muggy conditions, with the three summer months delivering about 474.3mm (18.7 inches) of precipitation in 2025, frequently in the form of heavy afternoon downpours.

For visitors, this means Taipei in summer calls for light, breathable clothing, regular hydration, and plenty of indoor or shaded breaks during midday. Early mornings and evenings are the most comfortable times for outdoor sightseeing, while air-conditioned attractions like museums, markets, and metro stations offer welcome relief. If you prefer drier, cooler conditions, the autumn and winter months in Taipei are far more forgiving than the humid peak of summer.

Question 5

How much total rainfall did Taipei receive in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Taipei received approximately **2,065.6 mm (81.3 inches)** of total rainfall across 2025, confirming the city's reputation as one of Asia's wettest capitals. Rain fell throughout the year rather than in a single concentrated wet season, averaging about 172 mm (6.8 in) per month.

The rainfall was spread across the meteorological seasons as follows:

- **Spring (March–May 2025):** 719.8 mm (28.3 in) — the wettest season
- **Autumn (September–November 2025):** 629.0 mm (24.8 in)
- **Summer (June–August 2025):** 474.3 mm (18.7 in)
- **Winter (January–February 2025):** 170.5 mm (6.7 in) — the driest stretch

The single wettest month in Taipei was October 2025 with 401.6 mm (15.8 in), heavily influenced by autumn frontal and typhoon-season activity. May was a close second at 316.0 mm (12.4 in). At the other extreme, January 2025 was the driest month with just 43.9 mm (1.7 in).

For travelers, these figures show that meaningful rain is possible in Taipei in any month, so an umbrella is a year-round essential. The relatively drier window of December through February makes late winter the most reliable time to visit if you want to minimize heavy downpours, while spring and autumn bring the heaviest and most frequent rainfall to the city.
