Question 1

When is the best time of year to visit London for warm and dry weather?

Accepted Answer

The best time to visit London for warm and dry weather is late spring to early summer, roughly **April through June**, when 2025 data shows London combined rising temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and relatively low rainfall.

Across April to June 2025, London averaged 15.1°C (59.2°F), warming steadily from a mean of 11.6°C (52.9°F) in April to 19.0°C (66.2°F) in June. Sunshine was abundant, with April alone recording 290 hours and the three-month stretch totalling around 804 hours. Rainfall stayed moderate, averaging about 57mm (2.25 in) per month, well below the wettest parts of the year.

Spring was the driest spell overall, and March 2025 was the single driest month with just 21.3mm (0.84 in) of rain. If you want genuine warmth, June delivered peaks up to 32.6°C (90.7°F), while July later produced the year's hottest reading at 34.0°C (93.2°F).

For comparison, the wet, darker months are best avoided: January saw 144.3mm of rain and October 140.8mm, both with under 90 hours of sunshine. Visiting London between April and June 2025 offered the most reliable balance of mild, sunny, and dry conditions for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Question 2

Which season was the wettest in London in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Autumn (September to November 2025) was the wettest season in London in 2025, delivering 345.1 mm (13.6 in) of rainfall — far more than any other meteorological season.

Using standard meteorological seasons, London's seasonal rainfall in 2025 broke down as follows:

- **Autumn (Sep–Nov 2025):** 345.1 mm (13.6 in)
- **Summer (Jun–Aug 2025):** 232.7 mm (9.2 in)
- **Winter (Jan–Feb 2025):** 228.5 mm (9.0 in)
- **Spring (Mar–May 2025):** 139.4 mm (5.5 in)

Autumn alone accounted for roughly a third of London's annual total of 1,044.0 mm (41.1 in). October was the standout month within autumn, recording 140.8 mm (5.5 in), while average humidity climbed to around 84% across the season. By contrast, spring was the driest stretch, led by March with just 21.3 mm (0.8 in).

For visitors and residents, this means the autumn months bring London's heaviest and most persistent rain, so waterproofs and an umbrella are essential from September onward. If you want the lowest chance of rain, spring offers the driest conditions of the year, making March through May the better window for outdoor sightseeing in London.

Question 3

What were the temperature extremes in London in 2025?

Accepted Answer

London's temperature extremes in 2025 ranged from a scorching high of **34.0°C (93.2°F)** to a freezing low of **-5.7°C (21.7°F)**, giving the city a full annual temperature range of 39.7°C (71.5°F).

The hottest day in London came on **1 July 2025**, when the mercury peaked at 34.0°C (93.2°F) during a midsummer heat spell. The coldest moment arrived in deep winter on **11 January 2025**, with an overnight low of -5.7°C (21.7°F). Across the whole year, London averaged a mild 12.0°C (53.5°F).

These extremes were far from isolated events. London recorded:

- **6 days** at or above 30°C (86°F)
- **38 days** at or above 25°C (77°F)
- **40 days** with frost (a minimum at or below 0°C / 32°F)

July was London's warmest month with a mean temperature of 19.2°C (66.6°F), while January was the coldest at just 4.0°C (39.2°F).

For visitors and residents, this means London's climate in 2025 demanded a flexible wardrobe. The summer peaks were hot enough to make air-conditioned spaces and shade welcome, while the winter frosts called for proper cold-weather clothing. With 40 frost days but only a handful of genuinely hot days, London remained a temperate city where moderate conditions, rather than extremes, defined most of the year.

Question 4

Which months had the most sunshine in London in 2025?

Accepted Answer

August was the sunniest month in London in 2025, recording **297.7 hours** of sunshine, closely followed by April with **290.0 hours**. Together with early summer, these months delivered London's brightest, most reliable spells of the year.

Across all of 2025, London accumulated **2,089.8 hours** of sunshine, averaging about 5.7 hours per day. The standout months were:

- **August:** 297.7 hours (about 9.6 hours per day)
- **April:** 290.0 hours (about 9.7 hours per day)
- **June:** 269.3 hours (about 9.0 hours per day)
- **May:** 244.6 hours (about 7.9 hours per day)

April's brightness paired with mild conditions, as the city averaged 11.6°C (52.9°F), while sunny August was the warmest of the group at 17.9°C (64.2°F). By contrast, the darkest stretch came in midwinter, with February seeing just 48.5 hours and January only 52.1 hours.

For planning a visit to London in 2025, the spring-to-late-summer window offered by far the best chance of bright days, making April through August ideal for sightseeing, outdoor dining, and walks through the city's parks. If sunshine is a priority, late winter is best avoided, as the short, overcast days deliver less than a fifth of the light enjoyed in peak months.

Question 5

How windy is London, and which months are the windiest?

Accepted Answer

London is a moderately breezy city, averaging **13.3 km/h (8.3 mph)** of wind across 2025, with the windiest conditions arriving in late autumn and winter and the calmest weather in early spring.

Across the full 2025 calendar year, monthly average wind speeds in London ranged from a low of **10.7 km/h (6.6 mph)** in March to a high of **15.9 km/h (9.9 mph)** in December. September was nearly as gusty at 15.5 km/h (9.6 mph), making the autumn months (September to November) the windiest stretch overall at an average of 14.3 km/h (8.9 mph).

By contrast, the warmer half of the year was noticeably gentler. Spring (March to May) averaged 12.6 km/h (7.8 mph) and summer (June to August) 12.7 km/h (7.9 mph), with July standing out as one of the calmest months at just 11.2 km/h (7.0 mph).

For visitors and residents, these wind speeds in London are light to moderate and rarely disruptive to everyday plans. The breezier December and September conditions can make temperatures feel cooler than the thermometer suggests, so a windproof layer is worth packing for autumn and winter trips. If you prefer the calmest, most settled air for walking, cycling, or sightseeing, the March-to-July window offered London's gentlest weather in 2025.
