Question 1

Which season is the wettest in Ho Chi Minh City?

Accepted Answer

Autumn is the wettest season in Ho Chi Minh City, with the meteorological autumn period (September to November 2025) delivering about 1,084 mm (42.7 in) of rain — more than any other season of the year.

This autumn total edged out summer (June to August 2025), which recorded 1,024 mm (40.3 in), confirming that Ho Chi Minh City's heaviest rains fall across the second half of the year. By contrast, the dry season was strikingly different: spring (March to May 2025) saw just 418 mm (16.5 in), and the early-year dry months of January and February 2025 produced only 80 mm (3.1 in) combined.

A few key 2025 figures stand out for Ho Chi Minh City:

- **Wettest month:** September 2025 with 460.6 mm (18.1 in)
- **Autumn average temperature:** 26.6°C (79.9°F)
- **Autumn average humidity:** around 86%

The pattern reflects the southwest monsoon, which keeps humidity high and skies cloudy through the autumn months. Despite the heavy totals, rain in Ho Chi Minh City typically arrives as intense afternoon and evening downpours rather than all-day rain, so mornings often stay usable for sightseeing.

If you want the driest, most reliable conditions, plan your visit between December and April. For autumn travel, pack a compact umbrella or rain jacket and build flexibility into outdoor plans, as September and October bring the year's most frequent and intense showers.

Question 2

What was the hottest day in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025?

Accepted Answer

The hottest day in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 was **8 May**, when the temperature peaked at **37.7°C (99.9°F)**. This was the single highest temperature recorded anywhere in the year for the city.

That heat came during a short, intense spell at the tail end of the dry season. The very next day, 9 May 2025, reached 37.3°C (99.1°F), making these two consecutive days the warmest of the year. On 8 May the daily mean temperature climbed to 30.8°C (87.4°F), and even the overnight low stayed at a sticky 26.0°C (78.8°F), with humidity around 69%.

Across the whole of 2025, Ho Chi Minh City logged **38 days** with a daytime high of at least 35°C (95°F), while the average daily high for the year sat at 32.3°C (90.2°F). The most extreme heat was concentrated in the March–May dry season, with March posting the highest average daily maximum at 34.8°C (94.6°F).

For travellers, this means the hottest stretch in Ho Chi Minh City runs from roughly March into early May, when afternoon temperatures regularly approach or top 35°C (95°F). If you prefer cooler conditions, schedule outdoor sightseeing for the early morning and stay well hydrated, since the combination of high heat and humidity on these peak days can feel considerably hotter than the thermometer alone suggests.

Question 3

What is the annual temperature range in Ho Chi Minh City?

Accepted Answer

Ho Chi Minh City has a remarkably narrow annual temperature range, with monthly average temperatures shifting only about 2.9°C (5.2°F) across the entire year. In 2025, the city's mean temperature held steady at 27.3°C (81.1°F), confirming its classic tropical climate where heat is constant rather than seasonal.

The warmest stretch came in April 2025, when the monthly average peaked at 29.0°C (84.2°F), while November 2025 was the coolest month at 26.1°C (79.0°F). That gap of less than 3°C between the hottest and coolest months means Ho Chi Minh City experiences no true winter or summer in the temperate sense.

Day-to-day extremes show a wider spread than the monthly averages suggest:

- **Highest daily maximum:** 37.7°C (99.9°F), recorded in May 2025
- **Lowest daily minimum:** 18.7°C (65.7°F), recorded in January 2025
- **Full 2025 range:** about 19.0°C (34.2°F) between the year's hottest afternoon and coolest night

On a typical day in 2025, highs averaged 34.6°C (94.2°F) and lows around 22.1°C (71.8°F), so the daily swing between afternoon and night often exceeds the difference between seasons.

For travelers, this means weather in Ho Chi Minh City is predictable year-round: pack light, breathable clothing in any month and plan around rainfall rather than temperature, since the thermometer barely changes from January to December.

Question 4

Which months had the most sunshine in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025?

Accepted Answer

April was the sunniest month in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025, recording 303.9 hours of sunshine — roughly 10.1 hours of sun per day. The early dry-season months dominated the rankings, making spring the brightest stretch of the year.

The three sunniest months of 2025 were:

- **April:** 303.9 hours (about 10.1 hours/day)
- **March:** 296.6 hours (about 9.6 hours/day)
- **January:** 276.5 hours (about 8.9 hours/day)

Across the full year, Ho Chi Minh City accumulated 3,111.3 hours of sunshine, averaging a generous 8.5 hours per day. Sunshine stayed remarkably high from December through April, the heart of the dry season, when rainfall was light and skies stayed clear. The sunniest month, April, paired its long days with warm average temperatures of 29.0°C (84.2°F).

The cloudiest month was September, with just 183.0 hours of sunshine, as it sat at the peak of the wet season and the city's heaviest monthly rainfall of 460.6mm.

For travelers, these numbers make the dry-season window of January to April the best time to count on bright, sunny days in Ho Chi Minh City — ideal for sightseeing, river cruises, and outdoor markets. If you visit during the rainy months from May to October, expect shorter sunny spells broken up by afternoon downpours, so plan key outdoor activities for the morning hours.

Question 5

How humid is Ho Chi Minh City throughout the year?

Accepted Answer

Ho Chi Minh City is consistently humid all year, averaging **79.8% relative humidity** across 2025 thanks to its tropical climate near sea level.

Humidity in Ho Chi Minh City rises and falls with the wet and dry seasons. During the dry-season months (December through April) the air was comparatively drier, averaging about **72.7%**, while the wet-season months (May through November) climbed to an average of **84.9%**. The single most humid month of 2025 was September at **87.8%**, closely followed by October at 86.3% and June at 86.0%.

The driest reading came in March, when humidity dipped to **68.6%** alongside the year's warmest average temperature of 28.6°C (83.5°F). Four months — June, August, September and October — sat at or above 85%, coinciding with the heaviest rainfall of the year.

For visitors and residents, this means the sticky, sultry feel of Ho Chi Minh City is hard to escape, but it is most intense from late spring through autumn. With an overall annual mean temperature of 27.3°C (81.1°F), the combination of warmth and high moisture makes the air feel heavy, so lightweight, breathable clothing and good hydration are essential. If you prefer slightly less oppressive humidity, the December–April window is the most comfortable time to explore the city.
